Lockport Township High School Hosts Annual 'Road To Reality'

The event will show different scenes showing choices available to teens regarding drug use and underage use of alcohol, and consequences.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Township High School and the Lockport Township High School Foundation will be presenting the 18th Annual Road to Reality on Thursday, April 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be in the Lockport Township High School East Campus Cafeteria in Lockport.

Upon arrival, participants must register to take the tour. The school said attendees should arrive no later than 7 p.m. to ensure a tour. The event is open to parents and their students in fifth grade through senior year in high school. It is mandatory that non-driving students be accompanied by a parent or adult. There is no cost to attend.

Due to the program’s graphic nature, it is not intended to be viewed by children under the age of ten. According to the school, the “road” will consist of different scenes showing the choices available to teens regarding drug use and underage use of alcohol, as well as the potential physical, emotional and legal consequences of those choices. In addition to the "road" event, there will be numerous information booths including local and state law enforcement agencies, community outreach programs and K9 unit police dog demonstrations.

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists will also offer students a chance to check their “driving” abilities while impaired using “drunk” googles, the school said. Additionally, the Will County Sheriff's Office’s "Hidden in Plain Sight” trailer will be available for adults over 21 years of age to tour. The trailer will recreate a teen’s bedroom to educate parents, coaches and other influential adults in identifying signs of alcohol and drug abuse, eating disorders, self-mutilation, violence, sex and other dangerous behaviors.

The event is made possible with the support of the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, Silver Cross Hospital, the Will Count Coroner’s Office, Illinois State Police District 5, 12th Judicial Circuit Court, Lockport Police Department, Crest Hill Police Department, Steriotis Auto and the Will County Sheriff’s Crime Prevention Unit.
