Lockport Township High School Students Recognized For National Academic Excellence

148 freshmen from the Class of 2029 were recognized for their performance in the PreACT Rising Stars Program.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Township High School District 205 recently honored its students who have earned National
Merit Scholarship finalist standing as well as students who earned recognition in the PreACT Rising Stars Program.

Seniors Julianne M. Carway and Gabriella Kedzierski were named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among the nation’s top high school scholars, the district shared in a news release.

“Becoming a National Merit finalist has opened many doors for me throughout the college selection process, and I am so grateful to LTHS and everyone who has supported me,” said Carway. “I encourage students to seek out similar opportunities, because the reward is absolutely worth the effort.”

“I greatly admire the National Merit Program's mission to recognize academic excellence, so I am very honored to have earned the distinction of National Merit finalist and grateful for the opportunities it has provided,” said Kedzierski. “I'd like to encourage my peers not to put too much pressure on any specific opportunity, whether it be a scholarship or an award, because there are many different ways to find success, and there will always be more opportunities as long as you stay driven.”

148 freshmen from the Class of 2029 were also recognized for their performance in the PreACT Rising Stars Program, the District said. Of these, 59 students earned the PreACT Distinguished Scholar designation for scoring in the top 3 percent nationally, and 89 students earned the PreACT Rising Scholar designation for scoring in the top 4–10 percent nationally on the PreACT 8/9 assessment.

The Lockport Township High School District 205 Board of Education recognized all the students during its March 16 meeting.
