Lockport Woman, 18, Arrested In Connection With Joliet Shooting

The 18-year-old man was arrested early Thursday following an early-morning shooting in Joliet, according to police who say woman drove car.

JOLIET, IL – Two people were arrested early Thursday morning in conjunction with the aggravated discharge of a firearm in the 220 block of Herkimer Street in Joliet, the Joliet Police Department announced. An 18-year-old Joliet man and an 18-year-old Lockport woman were arrested and booked into the Will County Jail following the incident, which happened just after 3 a.m. on Thursday, police reported.

Jesus Mendoza, 18, was arrested and booked for the offenses of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm and not having a valid form of identification. Jada L. Boykin, 18, Lockport, was arrested, booked and released on an individual bond on the offense of unlawful use of a weapon.

According to police, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 3:02 a.m.. Once at the scene, officers learned that the victim was driving in the area of Cass St. and Scott St. when a silver Nissan began to follow the victim. Once the vehicles reached the 220 block of Herkimer St., a male suspect exited the Nissan from the passenger side of the vehicle and began shooting toward the victim. The male then fled the scene and officers were provided a description of the vehicle. Officers checked the scene and discovered nothing had been struck by gunfire.

Officers later discovered the gray Nissan in the area of E. Washington St. and Iowa Ave. and conducted a traffic stop. Both Mendoza and Boykin were arrested and taken into custody. Officers were able to determine Mendoza was the one who had fired the gun.
