Lockport Woman's Club Boatyard Park Plans Move Forward
The City Council approved two contracts for the playground.
LOCKPORT, IL — Plans for the Lockport Woman's Club Boatyard Park project moved forward after Wednesday's Lockport City Council meeting. The Council awarded two contracts for the project: one to Schwartz Construction Group, Inc., for $431,326.24 and one to Kompan for playground equipment for $258,594.84.
Director of Community and Economic Development Lance Thies said the City opened bids for the project on Feb. 4.
"Bids came back favorable," he said.

The contract calls for the construction of the play space south of the Heritage Village, and will include installation of foundations for all the play equipment, curbing, sidewalk, fencing, landscape, drainage and grading, Council documents state.
The playground is ship-themed, and includes a canal boat shaped structure. There is also a zip line.

The Lockport Women's Club has committed $40,000 toward the project. The City has also received a $348,907 Tourism Attraction and Programming grant for this project.
"I want to thank the Woman's Club for initiating this whole project some years ago," Mayor Steve Streit said.
