Lockport's Gaylord Building Launches America 250 Think & Drink Series

LOCKPORT, IL — To celebrate America's 250th birthday, the Gaylord Building Historic Site will present a special three-part Think & Drink series exploring the people and communities who helped shape the larger American story, according to a news release from the Building.

The series starts July 9, at 7 p.m. with “Founding Mothers,” presented by librarian and lecturer Laura Keyes. The program highlights the women whose courage, labor, ideas, and leadership helped shape America’s early years, a news release states.

The series will continue in August when Dr. Dorene Wiese presents on Native American history, culture and continuing contributions in Illinois.

In September, Dr. John F. Lyons will present “The Irish in America,” examining the experience of 19th-century Irish immigrants, from famine-era migration and anti-Irish prejudice to their influence on American politics, labor, religion, culture and community life.

"Together, the three programs invite audiences to think broadly about the nation’s history and the many people whose lives, work, and communities have shaped America over the past 250 years," according to the news release.
