LTHS Foundation Recognizes Teacher, Bus Driver With Annual Awards

Teacher Brandan Morrone and bus driver John LaValle earned annual awards based on their service to the District and its students.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Township High School District 205 has announced this year’s recipients of two prestigious awards presented by the LTHS 205 Foundation: the William and Mildred Jackson Teacher Recognition Award and the Golden Key Award.

The District shared that LTHS Career & Community Connections teacher Brandan Morrone was selected as this year’s recipient of the William and Mildred Jackson Teacher Recognition Award. Additionally, for the third year in a row, the LTHS 205 Foundation awarded the Golden Key Award to John LaValle, a bus driver, in recognition of his daily commitment and dedication to LTHS.

The William and Mildred Jackson Teacher Recognition Award celebrates educators who demonstrate excellence in both the art and science of teaching, the District said. Sponsored by LTHS alumni Robert Carr and Jill Jackson Carr through the Give Something Back Foundation, the award honors Jill’s late parents—William Jackson, a former LTHS science teacher and coach (1958–1982), and Mildred Jackson, who provided music lessons to children in the Lockport community.

“This award means everything as I reflect on what it means to be both a teacher and coach. I am truly lucky to have a job where I look forward to coming in and seeing my students every day, and I am so grateful to have that same type of support from my students, their families, and my coworkers," said Morrone upon receiving the award. "This award will remind me that even though we may have some moments and days that are challenging, being able to have an impact on the lives of these young adults as they enter the real world is a privilege and a special responsibility to hold. I am truly grateful for everyone involved in this community, and I would like to thank everyone who played a part in giving me this recognition!”

The Golden Key Award award recognizes support staff who go above and beyond in service to the LTHS community. The Golden Key Award was presented by students who nominated him at the same end-of-year meeting, where those who nominated him read aloud heartfelt statements describing his remarkable kindness, unwavering dedication, and the genuine care he consistently demonstrates toward his bus riders, the District said.
