LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Township High School will host its first Hispanic Heritage concert on Thursday as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

The concert, sponsored by LTHS choirs, will feature a Mariachi group, LTHS students, and choral composer Santiago Veros from Buenos Aires.

Director of Public Relations Jeannette Castillo said Veros has been on campus working with students this week. Several of his musical pieces will be performed during the concert, including the world premiere of his new composition, "Ritual del nuevo día."

Castillo told Patch that Veros and LTHS Associate Director of Choirs Benjamin Saunders connected this past spring from an article Saunders published in the ACDA Choral Journal.

"Saunders commissioned Veros to write a new piece for Bel Canto, one of our LTHS choirs here on campus," Castillo said.
