LTHS Recognizes Students For Athletic, Academic Achievements

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Dec. 16 meeting, the Lockport Township High School District 205 board recognized several students for various achievements. Kyle Karpinski, Jose Gutierrez, Elliana Fontanetta and Michael O'Callaghan were honored by the board for their accomplishments in academics and athletics.
Karpinski and Gutierrez were awarded the National Merit medal from the National Junior Horticultural Association, board documents state. Karpinski and Gutierrez were guided by horticulture teacher Colleen Martin. The school said Karpinski and Gutierrez submitted a photo to the national convention, representing what horticulture means to them.
Fontanetta was recognized by the board for receiving all-state honors in the 2019 swimming state competition. According to board documents, Fontanetta is a sophomore and has become the school's first athlete with disabilities state champion in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Fontanetta also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Lastly, the board recognized senior O'Callaghan for achieving a perfect score on the ACT.
