Person Of Interest In Custody After Fatal Shooting: Sheriff

Police have also seized the van they suspect was involved in the crime, the sheriff's office said.

LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, IL — A person of interest is in custody after a 39-year-old man from Lockport was killed in a drive-by shooting on Oak Avenue Tuesday in unincorporated Lockport Township, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The man who was shot, Patrick Taylor, was pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital, police said.

The sheriff's office said a person of interest was taken into custody Wednesday morning, and police have also seized a red Ford conversion van they suspect was involved in the crime.

Deputies responded at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday to Oak Avenue, just west of Brassel Street, for a shooting, the sheriff's office said. Witnesses told police that Taylor had been walking down the street when a man in a red Ford conversion van shot and killed him. After the shooting, the van drove away, according to police.

Deputies began life-saving measures on Taylor, who had been shot multiple times, police said. Lockport Township Fire Protection District took Taylor to a local hospital, where he died.

Deputies with the Will County Sheriff’s Office began to canvass the area, and were able to get multiple witness statements, according to police. Detectives also conducted interviews, and crime scene investigators with the Will County Sheriff’s Office collected evidence, police said.

The investigation is still in the early stages and additional information will be provided when appropriate, police said.
