Man Killed In Lockport Was Shot, Coroner Says

A man was fatally shot in Lockport, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

LOCKPORT, IL — A man was fatally shot in Lockport Thursday, officials said Saturday.

Richard T. Labus Jr. was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

He was shot in the 14000 block of Archer Avenue, and the Will County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death, officials reported.

The preliminary autopsy report showed Labus was shot in the chest, according to the coroner's office, which reported the final cause and manner of death will not be released until police, autopsy and toxicology reports are complete.

Labus, 50, of Lockport, was a chief technology officer for an HR company and amateur bodybuilder who is survived by many relatives, including a wife and three children, according to his obituary.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at O'Neil Funeral Home and Heritage Crematory, 1105 E. 9th St., Lockport, IL 60441.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 15050 Wolf Rd., Orland Park, IL 60467.
