Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra Auditions for the 2022-23 Season

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) is accepting video auditions for their 2022-2023 season through Sunday, August 28, 2022.

MYSO currently has openings in all sections of the orchestra, including: Concertmaster, violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion. Players seeking to join the orchestra should prepare and submit the audition excerpts found at www.mysomusic.org. The orchestra is open to high school students, as well as advanced middle school instrumentalists who study with a private teacher. Lewis University and Joliet Junior College students can enroll in the orchestra for course credit.

The 2022-2023 season marks the orchestra’s 63rd Season. Originally founded in 1959 by Mary K. Rosen, the orchestra has grown from a mere 14 music students to now 60 musicians. MYSO is under the direction of Maestro Peter Lipari, Plainfield resident and Joliet Township High School Orchestra Director.

MYSO seeks to promote and challenge orchestral musicians by providing an opportunity to perform repertoire of a wide variety of styles and historical periods with the goal of musical excellence. Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school student from over 21 communities surrounding the Joliet area, as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.

MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening during the school year from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m.

at Lewis University. The orchestra will perform up to six concerts during the upcoming 2022-2023 season. Concerts are held at Lewis University, Joliet Junior College, and Joliet Bicentennial Park.
