MYSO Orchestra Announces Peter Lipari as new Music Director

Maestro Lipari becomes Music Director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) announces the appointment of Peter Lipari as their new Music Director. Mr. Lipari leads the award-winning youth orchestra, in partnership with Lewis University.

“I am delighted to lead this exceptional youth orchestra,” says Lipari. “I look forward to sharing my excitement, knowledge and passion for orchestral music with this group of talented players.”

Music Director Peter Lipari is an accomplished conductor of musical groups in the United States and abroad. His lively styles of conducting and audience interaction win the hearts of musicians and concertgoers alike. He is the Director of Orchestras at Joliet Township High School. He is also the Music Director of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Singers, and Festival Orchestra. He has conducted various ensembles throughout the world including Chicago’s Grant Park Orchestra, Rockford Symphony, Light Opera Works, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Spoleto Festivals (Italy and the U.S.), Bournemouth Sinfonietta, London Mozart Players, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Australia. He holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in orchestral conducting from Northwestern University. He also studied at the University of London as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar, earning a post-graduate diploma in music.

MYSO recently welcomed back their winds, brass, and percussion musicians after nearly 2 years of sustaining as a Strings-Only Ensemble. The orchestra currently has openings in most sections of the orchestra: violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, and percussion. Players seeking to join the orchestra can visit www.mysomusic.org for audition requirements. Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from over 20 communities surrounding the Joliet area, as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.

MYSO rehearses Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m.

in the St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall on the campus of Lewis University. The orchestra normally performs six concerts during each season. Concerts are held at Lewis University, Joliet Junior College, and Joliet Bicentennial Park.
