LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Township Fire Protection District said no one was injured after a fire in the Lockport Office Building on Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived at the building at 1000 South State Street around 4:52 p.m. Tuesday. The fire caused "extensive damage" to the interior of the building, including the upper floors and the roof. Firefighters battled the blaze for about 3 hours, the district said.

"When the initial fire company arrived they had nothing showing from the front of the large three story office building, but their investigation quickly discovered a fire in a wall near the rear fire escape," the fire district said in a news release. "Companies began an interior fire attack and found that the fire had extended up through various void spaces to the third floor and roof. The building’s construction made overhaul operations extremely difficult to expose all of the hidden fire."
