Nominate A Family With Special Needs For Disney Trip: Village

HOMER GLEN, IL — Although the Village of New Lenox came out on top in a pop tab collection competition with the Village of Homer Glen, both towns will choose a family with special needs to go to Disney World.

Of the 4,017 pounds of pop tabs collected between the two towns, New Lenox came out ahead with 2,134 pounds. According to the original terms of the challenge, the winning town was to pick a family with special needs to send to Disney World; however, thanks to additional donations, now both towns will each select a family with special needs to send to Disney World for a trip valued at $5,200.

Donations were from Konow's Corn Maze, Zachary's Red Barn, Birchwood Gardens, Chesdan's Pizzeria and Grille, Raffy's Candy and New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann.

To nominate a family from Homer Glen, you can fill out a form on the Village of Homer Glen website. It will be located under the "pop tab war" page, and it will open on Friday. Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 16 at 11:59 p.m., the village said.

Families may nominate themselves, and you must be a Homer Glen resident. The form includes a section where nominees are asked to write a brief description on why the nominated family is deserving of the prize. According to the village, the winning family will be drawn at random. The family will be asked to attend the Aug. 25 village board meeting to claim their prize.

The Village of Homer Glen is organizing the nomination process and management of the winning Homer Glen family. The Village of New Lenox is organizing the nomination process and management of the winning New Lenox family, the village said.
