Marian E. Gawenda, age 89, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, September 26, 2025, at the Inn at Willow Falls—just five days shy of her 90th birthday.

Born in Aurora, IL, on October 1, 1935, Marian was the daughter of the late Helen (Kramer) and George McKibben. She was the devoted wife of the late Casimir Gawenda and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

Marian is survived by her four children, Ann (Tom) Riffle, John (Carol) Gawenda, Connie (Rob) Patterson, and Edward Gawenda; her beloved grandchildren, Casey, Kelly, Craig, Kristy, Brieanna, Michelle, Jaysen, Allen, Haley, and Griffin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and George McKibben; sister, Nancy (Jim) Tarling; and loving husband, Casimir Gawenda.

Marian had a zest for life and a creative spirit. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for filling her home with delicious meals and sweet treats. She had a love for gardening, particularly tending to the flowers in her yard, and she expressed her artistic talents through crafts and artwork. Marian was immensely proud of her grandchildren and shared a special bond with her two little dogs, Penny and Taco, who brought her so much joy.

In keeping with Marian’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marian’s name may be made to Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
