Public Private Partnership Established Between Local Fire Districts And Illinois American Water

Illinois American Water is partnering with the Homer
Township Fire Protection District and Northwest Homer Fire and Ambulance Protection District
to improve emergency communications for residents in the Southwest region.
Illinois American Water’s is donating space on the elevated water storage tank in the Village of
Homer Glen to the Fire Protection Districts. Both Districts will have public safety communication
devices installed on the tank.
According to Robert Tutko, Fire Chief-Administrator for the Homer Township Fire Protection
District, both districts had been experiencing radio communication issues in the area. In
cooperation with WESCOM, a company that supports the emergency communications center, it
was determined an additional receiver site was needed along Bell Road between 143rd
and159th Street.

Richard Hermann, Senior Manager of Field Services & Production for Illinois American Water’s
Chicago Metro District, explained the Company’s Mustang Drive water tower proved to be an
ideal location that will greatly enhance public safety communications. “All involved in the project
believe this installation will directly improve the safety of firefighters and residents in the
community,” stated Hermann.
Fire officials at both locations are pleased with the partnership. “I want to thank Illinois
American Water for their invaluable assistance in providing a radio receiver at the Mustang
Drive water tower in Homer Glen,” stated Chief Robert Tutko. “I believe this is an excellent
example of public private partnerships that can be developed to enhance and improve the
safety of the community.”

Tutko also acknowledged the assistance received from WESCOM Director Steve Rauter,
Communications Specialist Stan Devine, Northwest Homer Deputy Chief Todd Fonfara and
Homer Township Fire Captain Brian Jamrok in bringing this project to reality. WESCOM is
moving forward with finalizing the design and construction details at the tank site.
Hermann stated Illinois American Water is proud to play a role in this project. “As a water

A strategic partnership such as this one is not only part of being in the community but also a
service we are grateful to offer at no cost.”
