LOCKPORT, IL — A Joliet man has been charged with robbery after police said he stole money Sept. 13 from the Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Devonte Weddington, 26, is currently being held on $50,000 bail at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Police said they responded to a call of a robbery in progress at 2:55 p.m. Sept. 13 at Tropical Smoothie Cafe, 16105 Farrell Road. When officers arrived, a woman told police she was carrying a deposit envelope with money inside when it was taken from her hands as she was leaving the business. The offender, later identified as Weddington, had fled on foot toward the rear of the business, police said.

About an hour later, police said a different man returned to the business and told officers still on scene that his friend had committed the robbery, felt bad, and wanted to return the money.
