Route 66 Car Benches Coming To Lockport This Summer
2026 is the 100th anniversary of Route 66, which stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles.
LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council approved a purchase for Route 66 Centennial commemorative car benches.

To celebrate this milestone, the City and the Lockport Council of Arts will implement a Route 66 Centennial commemorative car bench sponsorship program. The cost is $47,060.

"The program will feature custom-designed fiberglass car benches produced by Bauer Designs, a company specializing in car-themed art products," Council documents state.
The benches will be displayed throughout downtown from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The cost of $47,060 is fully funded by 23 sponsors.
"There is no use of taxpayer funds for the production, installation or programming of the benches," Council documents state.
