Senior Day, Salute To Soldiers Planned During HomerFest

The Senior Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with a special Salute to Soldiers from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Homer Glen's annual community festival, HomerFest, kicks off tomorrow and continues through Sunday with a carnival, parade, fireworks, food vendors and live entertainment.

Each day offers a variety of events, and on Sunday, a Senior Day and a Salute to Soldiers event is planned.

Township Trustee Mike Bonomo, who serves on the township's senior committee, said there will be many veterans at the event, including World War II veterans Rich Olund and Ervin Habada, Korean War veteran Earl Hiller, and Vietnam War veteran Larry Killmer.

Bonomo added that it is "pretty special" to have two World War II veterans under one roof.

The Senior Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., with a special Salute to Soldiers from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

There will be a tent, Bingo, food, comedy and entertainment, Bonomo said.

"It's going to be a happy occasion," he added.

The schedule for HomerFest is as follows:

Thursday

  • Carnival, 3 to 11 p.m.
  • Vendors, 5 p.m. to midnight
  • Fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Friday

  • Special Needs program at the carnival from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Carnival open from 5 p.m. to midnight
  • Vendors, 5 p.m. to midnight

Saturday

  • Homer Township annual Independence Day parade, 10:30 a.m.
  • Carnival, noon to midnight
  • Vendors, 1 p.m. to midnight

Sunday

  • Carnival, noon to 10 p.m.
  • Vendors, 1 to 10 p.m.
  • Senior Day, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Salute to Soldiers, 2 to 2:45 p.m.
