Songwriter Spotlight Features Area Musicians At Lockport's The Studio

LOCKPORT, IL — The Studio in Lockport will play host to a variety of Chicagoland musicians in its singer/songwriter spotlight events planned monthly through the rest of the year. The venue is at 900 S. State St.

Each spotlight event features three different groups or songwriters from across the Chicago area.

"The Studio is a true music venue, which is why it’s such a great spot for this. They don’t double as a sports bar or brewery, they are a live music venue," Eddie Ryan, who will be featured in a spotlight event on June 10 told Patch.

Ryan worked with songwriting partner Laura Patricia, who owns the venue, to develop the shows.

Ryan said songwriters will talk about their process, meanings behind their songs, and their overall approach to music during these events. The showcase covers a wide range of genres, Ryan said.

"We feature three songwriters a night and by having these on a weekend night versus during the week, we hope to introduce original music to an audience that may be used to seeing cover bands or maybe doesn’t have an opportunity to go to Nashville, Austin or Los Angeles to get exposure to something like this," Ryan said.

"The music community and patrons have made The Studio unlike any other venue around," owner Laura Patricia said. She took over the business in January 2021, and since then, has been open seven days a week offering live music.

The Studio offers open a comedy show, jam sessions, practice sessions, open mic events and other live music events. The venue also holds wine-tasting and bourbon-tasting events, Blues and BBQ, Studio Dollhouse Drag Show brunches, as well as private events like baby showers, bridal showers and birthdays.

"We are hoping to attract even more musicians and patrons to The Studio with these singer/songwriter spotlights," Patricia said. "I am deeply passionate when it comes to music, especially original music."

"No other venue around this area really focuses on original music, so I'm so excited to showcase that talent on the stage!"

Tickets are $5 online, or $10 at the door. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the event will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
