STORIES R Us Celebrates One Year!

One year ago, Barbara Eberhard wanted to find a home for STORIES R Us. She went to an open mic event at NIK&Ivy Brewing in Lockport, signed up to get on stage, told a story, went up to the owner, Paul Ivnik and asked if he would like a storytelling event at his Brewery. He immediately said, “any Wednesday,” and the rest is history. October marks the one-year birthday of STORIES R Us, which is a free event of personal narratives. Barbara asks for donations to cover expenses like the website and programs but did not want to charge an admission. She wanted it to be a free community event. She also offers a free storytelling workshop for the community a few times a year. Every month five storytellers take to the stage to share a personal tale. Storytellers are lined up in advance, some local, some from other communities, but all having a great story to share. On October 18, 6:30 p.m., the evening begins with the house musician, Harold McCay. Harold is a retired professor from Lewis University. At 7 the stories begin with Denise Baron-Unland, a novelist and writer for the Herald News; followed by Louis Greenwald, a two-time Moth winner (the Moth is a huge storytelling competition); Wendy Streit, a High school English teacher and Lockport’s “First Lady”; Katie Ward a retired teacher of dance and the hearing impaired; and Barbara Eberhard, host and producer of STORIES R Us. Come out and enjoy the stories, but don’t forget to sign-up for a chance to win some Fab prizes given away at intermission. Barbara has always loved the chance to win a door prize, so she decided to offer the chance every month to her audience. STORIES R Us is at NIK&Ivy Brewing 1026 S.
