Will County Historical Museum Discovers Lincoln Artifact

The museum discovered a set of dried flowers that had lain on Lincoln's funeral bier.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Will County Historical Museum recently announced the discovery of a set of dried flowers that had lain on President Abraham Lincoln's funeral bier in Washington, D.C. in April 1865. According to the museum, the flowers will be unveiled at a special event held Feb. 17.

The event will run from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and take place at the museum, located at 803 S. State St., in Lockport.

The Chicago Tribune reported Sandy Vasko, president of the Will County Historical Society, discovered the flowers tucked in the corner of a box.

Vasko sent pictures of the item to James Cornelius, the Lincoln curator at the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Springfield, who confirmed the find, according to the Tribune.

According to the museum's Facebook page, the event will feature a buffet dinner, silent auction and Lincoln-related speakers. Tickets are $50 each, and proceeds will benefit the restoration of the Brown family log cabin. Seating is limited, so reserve your spot as soon as possible.
