“I am excited to translate important election information to assist Will County voters who speak and read Spanish,” County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry said in a release. "The translation of the Voter Information Guide is an important initiative that reflects the diversity of our community."
In December, the county clerk received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice stating that after the completion of the 2020 Census, Will County is “subject to the bilingual election requirements of Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act … with respect to persons of Hispanic heritage.”

In response to the letter, Staley Ferry directed her Spanish-speaking staff members to immediately begin a concerted effort to translate all important public notices, forms, and instructions into Spanish, a release states. This includes instructions on ballots as well as notices and signs at Election Day Polling Places.
“Providing information that people can understand is the best way to make certain that qualified voters have informed access to the ballot,” Staley Ferry said.
