2 Teens Stick Gun in Off-Duty Cop's Face

One got away; the other had a very bad day.

One juvenile was arrested and another remains at large after what a source calls an attempted carjacking involving an off-duty police officer late Thursday in Homewood.

The incident occurred in the 18600 block of Klimm Avenue shortly before 11 p.m., police said. The offenders flashed a handgun and demanded that the officer get out of his parked car. The South Chicago Heights officer fired his gun in defense, Homewood Deputy Police Chief Denise McGrath said in a release.

The suspects fled and the officer pursued them. One offender, a 17-year-old from Chicago Heights, was taken into custody at Millennium Park, 18600 Harwood Avenue. The second suspect was not found, but was described as a black male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt.
