80-Year Old Woman Robbed In Homewood

James Hart School was placed on lockdown as police officers sought a man who pushed an 80-year-old to the ground and stole her purse.

HOMEWOOD, IL - An 80-year-old woman was robbed on a Homewood street Thursday morning, which caused a school lockdown and multi-agency police presence to help search for the offender. The man who robbed the victim near the corner of Olive Road and Center Avenue remained at large as of 11:30 a.m., according to police.

Police sent an alert to Homewood residents indicating the woman was approached by a black man wearing a hoodie around 8:30 a.m. at Olive and Center, where he pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. The woman was hospitalized "with lacerations to the facial area," police said in the alert.

Police officers from nearby Glenwood and a Cook County K9 unit responded to help Homewood police find the man, who was last seen on foot heading eastbound on 183rd Street from Aberdeen Street.
