FLOSSMOOR, IL — As construction begins on the long-awaited Flossmoor Veterans’ Wall of Honor, Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial, Inc., (FVM) is offering a special way to commemorate a family member or friend who has served in the country’s Armed Forces.
FVM has a limited edition of four steel powder-coated benches with an engraved plaque tribute for a $2,500 donation on its secure website (https://flossmoorvets.square.site). The 8-foot long benches are a black onyx color, with a bronze plaque 10.5 inches by 3 inches that will be mounted at the top of a curved back. The plaque will hold four lines of text, with a maximum of 28 characters and spaces per line. The sponsorship cost will be used to maintain the Veterans’ Wall of Honor site upon its completion later this summer.
FVM President Paul Braun, who served for 12 years as Flossmoor mayor from 2009-2021, noted that FVM’s sponsorships will provide residents with a location to pay tribute to the village’s Armed Forces veterans.
"Our goal has always been to provide a place to gather and reflect upon the military service of our neighbors, friends, and family," he said. "Along with our brick sponsorship program, these commemorative benches provide a gathering place to view Flossmoor’s latest piece of public art."
Benches will be installed when the Wall of Honor project is substantially completed, Braun said, and a ribbon-cutting program will be held later in the summer.
FVM is beginning construction on the Veterans’ Wall of Honor site, located between the CN/Metra tracks and Park Place, at 2525 Flossmoor Rd.
