'We're Evolving': Homewood Target Store To Undergo Remodel As Company Invests $5 Billion

The Homewood location is one of 5 in the Chicago area and 130 across the country that will see upgrades.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Homewood's Target store is one of five in the Chicago area and more than 100 across the country that will undergo a remodel with a vision of bringing the company's "elevated shopping experience" to more people.

The company is investing $5 billion in the remodels and also the opening of new stores as part of its effort, the company said in a release.

It is the largest transformation to the company's stores in the last decade, the company said, "with updated layouts that are easier to navigate and discover the best of Target’s style, design and value."

Homewood's store, 17605 S. Halsted St., and four others in the Chicago area will be remodeled. Those include:

“These investments are all about making Target an even easier, more inspiring and friendly place to shop,” said Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president, Target Properties. “We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”

The exact changes planned for the Homewood store aren't yet clear, and more details are likely in the fall.

Several of the remodels will feature Target's new "food-forward" design, which expands space dedicated to fresh groceries, produce and grab-and-go meal options. In addition to grocery enhancements, shoppers can expect improvements such as expanded drive-up capabilities, updated fitting rooms, modernized bathrooms, and dedicated nursing stations.

Modern décor and fixtures and specialty LED lighting will also help create a shopping experience that is both "hip and cool, warm and inviting," the company said.

The remodels are expected to be completed this fall.
