Battery, Retail Theft, Damage to Cars: Blotter

Homewood police reports, June 8–13.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13

Felony Retail Theft

Monae Tennie, 20, of the 8100 block of Yale Street, Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after being accused of shoplifting merchandise June 13 from Kohl’s, according to Homewood police reports.

A loss protection agent for the store, 17620 S. Halsted St., saw Tennie and a girl take items from the girls department into a fitting room, the report stated. When the two exited the room, the agent claimed their purses appeared to be stuffed merchandise, the report added. A search of the fitting room immediately after found several removed security sensors but no store items, according to the report.

Tennie and the girl were then apprehended by police as they were being driven away from the store by the girl’s mother, Monica Ashford, 47, the report stated. The girl was released to Ashford by police, and Ashford, of the 7200 block of Peoria Street, Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license and driving with only one brake light, the report added.

DUI

Christina Jankus, 33, of Barrington Drive, Bourbonnais, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and driving without lights when required after a June 13 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Police pulled over Jankus at about 11:45 p.m., in the 18100 block of Dixie Highway, for driving without his headlights on, the report stated. During the stop, the officer reported that Jankus’s breath smelled of alcohol, her eyes appeared glassy and red, and her speech was mumbled. When asked if she had been drinking, Jankus told police she had had three drinks earlier, the report added.

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

Battery, Retail Theft

Robert Anderson, 51, of the 19700 block of Sequoia Street, Lynwood, was arrested and charged with battery and retail theft after being accused of trying to shoplift items June 12 from Menards and tussling with a store employee when confronted, according to Homewood police reports.

The loss prevention agent for Menards, 17545 S. Halsted St., told police he saw, thanks to store security cameras, Anderson pocket $11.67 worth of plumbing hardware from a display, then exit the store. The agent then confronted Anderson outside the store and asked him three times to return inside, the report stated.

Anderson ignored the agent’s commands, pushed him aside and then hit the agent, the report stated. The two scuffled, which ended when the agent punched Anderson, the report added.

THURSDAY, JUNE 11

Retail Theft

Three women were accused of trying to shoplift June 11 more than $550 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s, according to Homewood police reports.

Jazmine Dumas, 21, of the 300 block of 35th Street, Steger; and Malika Fort Bolar, of the 300 block of Winnebago Street, Par Forest were arrested and charged with retail theft in the incident. Keyera Clerk, 21, of the 18600 block of Oakwood Avenue, Country Club Hills, was arrested and charged with retail theft and resisting arrest.

The loss prevention agent for the store, 17620 S. Halsted St., told police he saw the women via closed-circuit TV take items into a changing room and then exit without them, the report stated. The changing room was checked after the women left, and no items were in there, the report added.

Police confronted the three women as they exited the store without paying for the items, the report stated. Clerk dropped what she was carrying and fled from police through the parking lot before she was eventually apprehended, the report added.

The recovered items totaled $550, the report stated. Clerk was caught with $226, Dumas with $208 and Fort Bolar with $121, the report added.

Theft, Criminal Damage to Property

Dwight McGee, 53, of University Park, was arrested and charged with theft and criminal damage to property after being accused of stealing copper wire from a construction site at West 183rd Street and Riegel Road, according to Homewood police reports.

Bike Stolen

A mountain bike was reported stolen between 8:08 a.m. and 6:22 p.m. June 11 from a bike rack in the 18000 block of Harwood Avenue, according to Homewood police reports.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10

Vehicles Vandalized

Two vehicles were reported vandalised overnight, according to Homewood police reports.

A rear vehicle window was reported broken between 11:05 p.m. June 9 and 7:44 a.m. June 10, in the 18800 block of Center Avenue, the report stated. The driver’s side window of a vehicle in the 18900 block of Jodi Terrace also was broken between 11 p.m. June 9 and 9:39 a.m. June 10, the report added.

Retail Theft

Kiwaun Radcliffe, 18, of the 6300 block of Eberhart Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft after being accused of trying to shoplift $183 worth of clothes June 10 from Kohl’s, 17620 S. Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

TUESDAY, JUNE 9

Unlawful Use of Weapon

Elvis Balderas, 34, of the 100 block of 22nd Street, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and driving with an expired driver’s license after a June 9 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Balderas was pulled over at around 4:08 p.m., in the 1800 block of Halsted Street, after an officer ran a computer check that revealed Balderas had an expired license, the report stated. A search of the vehicle uncovered a pair of silver-colored brass knuckles in the glove box, the report added.

MONDAY, JUNE 8

iPhone Charger Stolen

An iPhone charger was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on the street in 1900 block of Hickory Road, according to Homewood police reports.
