A big-rig truck caught fire on Illinois 394 early Tuesday morning, requiring a hazmat response, shutting down the road and diverting traffic onto I-80.
Illinois State Police say the truck caught fire at about 2:10 a.m. near Glenwood-Lansing Road. The truck was hauling deoxidizer and fully engulfed when fire crews arrived. The deoxidizer was in 55-gallon drums. Deoxidizers are used in metallurgy to decrease the oxygen during a manufacturing process.
The fire was out within an hour. The northbound lanes reopened at 4 a.m. The southbound lanes were closed throughout the morning.
