Homewood native Tobias Cichon wasn’t always picky when it comes to beer. Once a fan of Miller Lite, it was his wife Raiye Rosado who nudged him to expand his tastes.

It worked.

“I went absolutely nuts, and within three months I was brewing my own beer,” Cichon said. His first home brew was named “Hair of the God,” a pale ale play on “Hair of the Dog that bit you.”

Nowadays he easily rattles off a few he enjoys, and he’s hoping that his own brews will soon be among Homewood’s favorites once residents check out his craft brewery, coming soon to 17759 Bretz Drive.

The industrial space is slowly filling out to match his vision. A fermenter is in place, and a bar salvaged from Tavern in the Woods awaits its first patrons. Cichon and partners Raiye and Ben Rodenburg hope to open in a matter of months. The group envisions live music inside, and small events on the grass field next to the building.

They plan to focus on pale ales, much like the Three Floyds beers on which he says he “cut his teeth.” Their beer offerings will be synced with seasonal tastes and demands, and you can expect to see them at community events.

“We love the community here,” Cichon said. “We want to help build the identity of Homewood.”

What Inspired the Name?

The name has its origin in Cichon’s first attempt at brewing. Steeped in imagery of ”insane warrior deities, and barbarians.” Originally dubbed Rabid God Brewery, they shortened it to Rabid to avoid misunderstandings. He hopes the residents feel that consideration and connection to the brewery and its owners.

Rabid Brewing will be a community-oriented venture, and they hope to welcome visitors for festivals and events.

“We want to really be a part of every event in the Village,” Cichon said.
