Broken Window, Cash Register Stolen In Homewood Looting

Someone tried to get into an ATM on Governors Highway, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — A few incidents of civil unrest in Homewood have been reported in recent days, but Deputy Police Chief Denise McGrath said there has been nothing major as of Tuesday night.

Two broken windows have been reported since looting began in the south suburbs following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.

McGrath said one incident was reported at 4:47 p.m. on May 31 at Speedway, 18002 S. Halsted St. where cigarettes and a cash register were stolen. The cash register was later recovered down the street, according to McGrath.
