The Cancer Support Center and Rose Pallet presents Beyond Words
An Art Exhibit Created by Cancer Survivors.

On Friday, June 19, 2015, The Cancer Support Center will host an art opening reception, Beyond Words, at Union Street Gallery at 1527 Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights, Ill., 60411, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Beyond Words is an art exhibit created by participants of The Cancer Support Center; the exhibit depicts the therapeutic advantages of art when words are not enough. A special thank you to Union Street Gallery for generously donating space in their gallery for this exhibit.
The Center offers an array of art programming. Each art program fosters the importance of establishing rapport and trust within the group. The program is designed to focus on the self while building towards more complex directives, such as creating memory boxes to remember a loved one or a worry creature that represents the concerns of cancer.
“The art therapy group at The Cancer Support Center has been an oasis in my life,” said Bobbie Felix Sievering, The Cancer Support Center participant and survivor. “When I enter the room, I immediately become totally immersed in what we are doing. I find concentration, camaraderie and fun. This brings me a sense of peace and calm that nothing else has ever done for me. It is the only time I’ve ever been able to ‘live in the now’ for an entire hour and 45 minutes. As a three-time cancer survivor, I am grateful to the leader, Kathleen Simpson, and to The Center for providing this haven in a stressful world.”
