The Cancer Support Center Hosts Survivors Block Party
A Community Event Celebrating Cancer Survivors.

The Cancer Support Center is hosting the Survivor’s Block Party on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at its Homewood location, 2028 Elm Road, Homewood, Ill., to commemorate National Cancer Survivors Month and to celebrate community members living with cancer. This community-wide, free event will feature live music, a healthy BBQ, and family-friendly activities.
The month of June marks National Cancer Survivors Month. Thousands of people in hundreds of communities across the U.S. and abroad will hold celebrations throughout the month of June to honor cancer survivors and to show that there is life after a cancer diagnosis – and it’s something to celebrate. Join The Center in celebrating those in the Southland communities living with cancer.
“For those living with cancer, every day is a victory,” said Sue Armato, Executive Director. “Surviving cancer is more than just living. It’s an attitude about life and living each day to the fullest. Join us as we celebrate the inspirational cancer survivors who make up our wonderful community.”

Last year, The Center provided more than 10,700 hours of programming and more than 300 free wigs, scarves and hats to women who were losing their hair due to chemotherapy, demonstrating the need in its communities. Offices are located in Homewood, 2028 Elm Road, and Mokena, 19657 S. LaGrange Road, and the programs are also facilitated at several hospitals and cancer centers in the Southland communities. The Center can provide these resources to anyone regardless of financial ability because of the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organizations.
For over 20 years, The Cancer Support Center has provided strength, guidance and support to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis, as well as to their loved ones. The Center is a community-based, volunteer-driven, donor-supported organization. The programs, resources and services are always delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritionists, and experts; and are provided in a warm, welcoming and nurturing setting at no cost to participants.
