Chelby Frazier, Former Thornwood Basketball Player, Dies

Tributes have poured in for Chelby Frazier, who collapsed last weekend while playing basketball with friends.

THORNTON, IL - Chelby Frazier, a member of the Robert Morris University men's basketball team and a former player for both Thornton and Thornwood high schools, died on Sunday at age 21. Pat Disabato of the Daily Southtown reports that he was playing basketball with college friends on Sunday when he suddenly collapsed and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Frazier was heading into his senior year at Robert Morris. He previously played at Parkland Community College and split his high school years at Thornton and Thornwood. Disabato, who has covered prep sports in the south suburbs for decades, said the former all-area player while at Thornwood "had a smile that could light up a gym and the personality to match."

Those who played with him and against him were among those who shared memories of Frazier on Twitter in the hours after his death.
