Children Held At Gunpoint In Suburban Standoff: Police

One person was taken into custody, police said.

THORNTON, IL — Two children were held at gunpoint in a domestic incident that resulted in a standoff with one person taken into custody Monday night in Thornton, according to police.

Officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a disturbance on Blackhawk Drive and arrived to find a female who had exited a home with two children but who reported that a male remained inside and was holding two more children at gunpoint, police said in a news release issued later that night.

Officers established a perimeter and requested help from the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, whose members saw that the male had become separated from the children, entered the home and took him into custody, according to police.
