HOMEWOOD, IL — The scene has cleared at the Canadian National railway building on Ashland Avenue in Homewood after what authorities say was a false alarm. The building, and others nearby, was evacuated after CN and Homewood police responded to a report of a suspicious package.

The suspicious package at the site was found to be harmless, a spokesperson for CN said. Still, police performed a sweep of the building as a precautionary measure. Traffic was also diverted off of Ashland during the investigation.

CN's network in the United States was temporarily affected, but it has since resumed normal operations according to the railway company.
