Homewood Amtrak Conductor's Recovery 'Slow But Steady' After Shooting
Michael Case of Homewood has responded to treatments "extremely well."

HOMEWOOD, IL — Michael Case, the Amtrak conductor who was shot on a train station platform in Naperville last month, continues to recover from his injuries. His wife, Sara Case, updated reporters this week on his recovery.
“It’s slow but steady,” she said. “We are getting ready for the next step, which may be a rehab center or possibly another surgery.”
Sara thanked the public for the many “anonymous gestures of kindness.” It has “been a real blessing,” she said. READ MORE: Outpouring Begins For Train Conductor Shot On Platform In Naperville

A doctor who is treating Case at Edward Hospital said “from a medical standpoint Michael is doing well considering the devastating injuries he started with.”
“He has responded to all of our treatments extremely well,” the doctor said, noting that the goal is to return Case to the same physical shape he was in before the shooting took place. “He should be the same way he was the way he went to work that day," the doctor said.

Edward Klein, 79, of Wisconsin — a retired federal law enforcement officer — was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting of Case, who authorities say was shot in the stomach while he walked on the platform from through a window inside the train when it was stopped at the Naperville station on May 18.
More than a month later, Sara credits a “wonderful team of doctors and nurses who are taking care of him” as reason for his rapid progress thus far.
Case remains in serious, but stable, condition.
