Construction on Flossmoor Meijer to Begin this Month

Local Meijer fans awaiting the construction of a Flossmoor location will soon see the start of construction.

Work on the 192,000-square-foot store is slotted to begin at the end of April, officials said Monday. The store will be located on the north side of Vollmer Road, just east of Crawford Avenue.

Plans for a groundbreaking ceremony are still in the works.

Flossmoor has not seen a development of this size since the construction of Flossmoor Commons in the 1970s, according to the village’s newsletter. Meijer officials first approached Flossmoor in 2007 about a retail opportunity at the Vollmer Road location, which was appealing because of its proximity to Interstate 57 as well as the distance from other retail markets in Matteson and Homewood.

The Flossmoor store will be a 24-hour facility that will sell groceries and general merchandise and have a pharmacy and a garden center.
