Cops Praise Mom For Alerting Them Of BB Gun Found In Son's Bag
The boy said he found the BB gun in some bushes and took it home because it was "cool looking," but didn't plan to bring it to school.

PARK FOREST, IL — A 9-year-old boy gave his mother a scare Monday after she found a BB gun in his backpack. Park Forest police are now praising the mom for alerting them, according to a report.
The boy said he found the BB gun in some bushes at a nearby park, WBBM reports Park Forest Police Officer Meghan Vold as saying. "He said he brought it home because he thought it was cool looking," Vold said, but he didn't plan to bring it to school.
The BB gun was all black and looked real to the mom, the report said.

Chief Christopher Mannino noted a string of vandalism cases in which cars' windows had been shot out by BB guns, WBBM reported. He said he doesn't think the 9-year-old was involved, but if the vandals' parents were more vigilant, "we wouldn't have these incidents."
The boy said he now understands the importance of telling his mother when he finds something out of the ordinary.

"This was really a positive, great outcome that we were happy to be a part of," Vold said, according to the report.
