Dr. Jenling James Chen had been a doctor for many years when he founded Chen Medical Centers and JenCare Neighborhood Medical Centers. Inspired by his own experience with life-threatening illness, he set out to offer superior health care with a difference.

In 2004, Dr. Chen was diagnosed with cancer and given only two months to live. He and his family saw firsthand what it was like to be on the receiving end of patient care – how hard it was to fight for access to quality care while fighting for your life.

Dr. Chen recovered, defying his original diagnosis, and knew that he had to do something about the frustrations he experienced with the current health care system. That’s why he created ChenMed – to turn the health care system around for the patients who need it most – seniors – by offering quality, empathetic, well-coordinated care in an accountable and compassionate physician-led culture.
