Aggravated Fleeing, Attempting to Elude
A Riverdale man was arrested in connection with leading police on a high-speed chase along Interstate-80 after a Feb. 27 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.
Willie Banks, 38, of the 13600 block of Eggleston Avenue, Riverdale, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude, driving with a revoked license, reckless conduct, driving without insurance and use of an unsafe tire.
Police tried to pull over Banks at about 12:38 a.m., in the 17500 block of Halsted Street, after the officer noticed Banks was driving his light blue Chrysler New Yorker on an under-inflated, almost flat, passenger-side, rear tire, the report stated. The officer continued to pursue Banks, who reached speeds of more than 100 mph, the report stated. The chase ended when the under-inflated tire on Banks’s car disintegrated and came off the car, sending the New Yorker spinning until it eventually stopped facing westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-80, the report added.
A passenger in the car also faces charges in the incident. George Rawls 38, of the 300 block of Yates Avenue, Calumet City, was charged with resisting a peace officer, the report stated.
