DUIs in Homewood: Blotter

Homewood police reports, April 7–12.

SUNDAY, APRIL 12

DUI

Azeek Owokoniran, 20, of the 100 block of Raye Drive, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after an April 12 crash, according to Homewood police reports.

Police responded to an accident in the intersection of Holbrook and Riegel roads, the report stated. Officers found an open alcohol container a third of the way full near the front passenger seat, the report added. Police also found a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance near the spare tire in the trunk, according to the report.

Owokoniran’s court date is May 5.

THURSDAY, APRIL 9

DUI

Hugo Orejon-Calderon, 33, 200 block of Arquilla Drive, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use after an April 9 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Police responded to a call at about 8:19 p.m., reporting a vehicle that was weaving in out of the westbound lanes of 183rd Street, the report stated. The responding officer pulled over the vehicle in the 2500 block of 183rd street and approached the Orejon-Calderon, who appeared confused and had trouble rolling down his window, the report added.

The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Orejon-Calderon’s breath, the report stated. Orejon-Calderon also had difficulty handing his license and proof of insurance to the officer, the report added.

TUESDAY, APRIL 7

DUI Intoxicating Compound

Charles Carthen, 32, of the 20100 block of Joy Lane, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and driving with a defective side mirror after an April 7 traffic stop, according to Homewood police reports.

Police pulled over Carthen in his black Cadillac at about 4:57 p.m., for a cracked driver’s side mirror as he was traveling southbound along the 19100 block of Halsted Street, the report stated. When the officer approached Carthen in the car, he could smell a strong pot odor coming from the vehicle, and he noticed a green plant material on the subject’s lap and pants, the report added. The material eventually field tested as 2.5 grams of pot, according to the report.

During the stop, Carthen told the officer he had just left work and had smoked some pot before driving, the report stated.
