Felon With No License Caught With Gun He Had No Permit For: Cops

Homewood police arrested a woman they say stole merchandise from Kohl's three times.

The following information is from the Homewood Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Unlawful Use Of Weapons

Lorenzo Cook, 33, of Harvey was stopped at 175th Street and Center Avenue at 1:24 a.m. on Sept. 25 and charged with no signal/no stop light, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid driver's license and unlawful use of weapons by a felon. Cook was found to be in possession of a firearm without a FOID card or Conceal Carry License. A check of Cook’s criminal history indicated he was previously convicted of a felony charge.

Jomel Joiner, 21, of Park Forest was stopped at Dixie Highway and Evergreen Road at 12:32 a.m. on Oct. 3 and charged with speeding, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while license suspended/revoked, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and cannabis possession between 10 and 100 grams (approximately 10.5 grams). Joiner was found to be in possession of a firearm without the required FOID card or Conceal Carry License.

Devonnah Bridges, 19, of Hazel Crest was charged with forgery at US Bank, 18300 Dixie Highway at 7:36 p.m. on Sept. 27. Bridges deposited a fraudulent check and withdrew funds from the account.

Shanique Sanchez Brown, 30, of Hartford, Wisconsin was charged with two counts of identity theft and unlawful possession of bank identification at Best Buy, 17800 Halsted St. at 6:02 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Retail Theft

Tyanna Griffin, 33, of Chicago Heights was charged with three counts of retail theft at Kohl's, 17620 Halsted St. at 4:34 p.m. on Sept. 30. On July 24, Griffin concealed items and exited the store without paying for the merchandise which had a total retail value of $123. On Aug. 3, Griffin concealed items and exited the store without paying for the merchandise which had a total retail value of $60. On Sept. 30, Griffin concealed items and exited the store without paying for the merchandise which had a total retail value of $143.91. Griffin was taken into custody and identified as the subject who concealed and removed items on July 25 and Aug. 3.

Jermell Hill Sledge, 26, of Harvey was charged with retail theft, Keenan Milsap, 22, of Riverdale was charged with retail theft and Curtis Amao, 31, of Harvery was charged with cannabis manufacturing/delivery at 8:34 p.m. at Walmart, 17550 S. Halsted St. Sledge concealed a bottle of a liquor and exited the store without paying for the merchandise which had a total retail value of $13.96. Milsap concealed two bottles of liquor and exited the store without paying for the merchandise which had a total retail value of $23.43. Sledge and Milsap entered a vehicle driven by Amao who was found to be in possession of approximately eight grams of suspect cannabis.

DUI

Ronald Layton, 54, of Hazel Crest was stopped at 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue at 4:51 a.m. on Oct. 3 and charged with improper lane usage, improper lighting, one headlamp, operating of an uninsured motor vehicle, no driver's license - never issued, illegal transportation of an alcoholic beverage and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more.

Note: Those charged with crimes deemed minor like driving while suspended, speeding and marijuana possession are not listed in this report.
