Fire Set Near Homewood Home After Dispute, Cops Say

A man faces an aggravated arson charge after a fire that broke out at a home on Idlewild Lane in Homewood.

HOMEWOOD, IL - A Chicago Heights man is accused of arson after police say he set a fire near a home in Homewood after a dispute with the homeowner. Jose Perez Ventura, 27 has been charged with aggravated arson and resisting or obstructing a peace officer following the incident reported just before 5 a.m. on July 7.

Police responded to the 1300 block of Idlewild Lane at that time, when they found a fire that had originated on two tires that were placed next to the residence. An investigation revealed that Venutura placed the tires there following a dispute with the homeowner, police said.

No one was injured in the fire, which police and fire personnel put out.

Later that day, Ventura was found at his home in Chicago Heights and is alleged to have refused to comply with police commands and "physically resisted" when police were putting him in custody.
