Flossmoor Appoints New Deputy Chief Of Police

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Flossmoor Police Department has appointed a new deputy chief to step in for its now-retired deputy chief of several years.

Commander Keith Taylor will immediately fill the role of Deputy Police Chief Clinton Wagner following the departure of Wagner, who served more than 20 years in the department. Effective August 26, Wagner welcomed his retirement.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked alongside Deputy Chief Wagner for so many years,” said Police Chief Tod Kamleiter. “His dedication to the residents of Flossmoor and the entire southland is commendable and he will be missed, but I cannot think of a better individual to serve as Deputy Chief than Keith Taylor. These are big shoes to fill, and he is more than capable of filling them.”

Taylor joined the Flossmoor Police Department in 2009 as a patrol officer after working a number of years as a Cook County Sheriff’s Department correctional officer and drill instructor. In 2013, he earned the title of Patrol Sergeant before being named Commander in 2019. Taylor holds a Master’s Degree in Public Safety Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Management from Calumet College of St Joseph. He has completed the School of Police Staff and Command and the Executive Management Program at Northwestern University Center for Public Safety and was recently certified as an Eligible Police Chief by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Taylor is also a veteran of the United States Navy and served four years of active duty as a Military Police Officer.

Wagner joined the Flossmoor Police Department in 2001 as a Patrol Officer. Prior to being named Deputy Chief in 2019, Wagner also served as Acting Shift Leader, Shift Leader, Patrol Sergeant, and Administrative Sergeant. Upon his retirement, Wagner will continue to be an active member of the Chicago Police Department’s Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society as a bagpipe musician. Wagner will also continue to be an active member of the Flossmoor Police Pension Board.

“Deputy Chief Wagner has provided two decades of service to the residents of Flossmoor, and we are so thankful for his commitment,” said Mayor Michelle Nelson.
