Flossmoor Family Loses Home in Fire

The fire appears to have been accidental, originating in the kitchen.

A Flossmoor family is in temporary housing after a fire swept through their home Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, starting in the kitchen and quickly consuming the home in the 2800 block of Kathleen Lane. The four family members residing there were not inside at the time of the fire. The home was deemed uninhabitable.

The homeowner’s children attend Flossmoor schools, reports The Chronicle.

It took crews from Flossmoor, Homewood, Hazel Crest, East Hazel Crest, Thornton and Chicago Heights 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze that caused an estimated $150,000 in damage. The fire is under investigation.
