Franciscan Health names Heart & Vascular Institute medical director

Dr. Omar Hamoui brings more than 20 years of cardiology care experience and academic expertise to Olympia Fields hospital

Omar M. Hamoui, MD, has been named the new medical director of the Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Heart & Vascular Institute.

Dr. Hamoui brings more than 20 years of personalized cardiology care experience and academic expertise to his new role.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hamoui to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Heart & Vascular Institute,” said Franciscan Health Olympia Fields President and CEO Raymond Grady. “Dr. Hamoui’s philosophy of care is to provide excellent medical care to each patient with kindness, compassion, respect and individualized attention, which aligns perfectly with our Franciscan values. Dr. Hamoui has led numerous academic initiatives locally, regionally and internationally. Dr. Hamoui earned The Charles Fisch Teacher of the Year Award for Excellence and Dedication in Teaching at Indiana University and will apply his experienced background in higher education to provide leadership in the planning and development of research programs at the Heart & Vascular Institute.

Dr. Hamoui has played a critical role in multiple medical trials and publications focused on his areas of medical interest, including general and interventional cardiology, antithrombotic agents, stroke prevention, congestive heart failure, hypertension and dyslipidemia.

He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.

“I am thrilled to join the exceptional team of professionals at the Heart & Vascular Institute and to help build upon the solid foundation they have built with the support of senior leadership,” Dr. Hamoui said. “I thank Franciscan Health for their support and encouragement as I assume this new role and look forward to serving alongside my new colleagues while expanding research programs at the Institute.”

The Heart and Vascular Institute and its programs are certified and accredited by multiple industry organizations for cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation, vascular testing, vascular laboratory services and stroke. The Institute has received multiple awards for its exceptional patient care, including from the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
