Gold Coin Dropped into Salvation Army Kettle in Homewood

It was one of two gold coins donated to the organization this week, during the kickoff of the Red Kettle Drive.

It must have made a louder ”plink” than the usual deposit into the Salvation Army’s red kettles.

An anonymous—and very generous—donor decided to give more than the spare change in their pocket, and dropped a gold coin into a red kettle in Homewood on Tuesday. A second was hand-delivered to a Salvation Army facility in Joliet.

Salvation Army spokeswoman Jackie Rachev told CBS said the tradition of anonymously donating gold coins to the organization dates back to the 1980s.
