Groundbreaking Set for Flossmoor Meijer Superstore
Work is set to begin on Flossmoor's Meijer store next week.

Meijer will officially break ground next week on its Flossmoor location.
For the last several months, construction crews have already been readying the land for the new store at the corner of Vollmer Road and Crawford Avenue on the village’s southwest side.
Groundbreaking will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28.

The 192,000-square-foot store is the first development of this size in the village since the construction of Flossmoor Commons in the 1970s, according to the village’s newsletter. Meijer officials first approached Flossmoor in 2007 about a retail opportunity at the Vollmer Road location, which was appealing because of its proximity to Interstate 57 as well as the distance from other retail markets in Matteson and Homewood.
The Flossmoor store will be a 24-hour facility that will sell groceries and general merchandise, and have a pharmacy and a garden center.
