H-F Student Wins $25K Taco Bell Scholarship

Raven Davis plans to use money from the Live Más Scholarship to study film at Columbia College Chicago.

FLOSSMOOR, IL - A Homewood-Flossmoor High School student received a top award of $25,000 as part of Taco Bell's Live Más Scholarships. Raven Davis, a senior from Flossmoor, was chosen as one of 300 winners of 8,000 high school seniors who applied for the national scholarship. In all, Taco Bell awarded $3 million as part of this scholarship this year.

Davis, one of only 16 who received the $25,000 amount, has been making videos since she was little now seeks a career in filmmaking. She'll get that started this fall when she is enrolled at Columbia College Chicago, where she will use her scholarship money to study film.

"Film has always been a passion for me," Davis said in her application video, stating her desire to be a director.

"I don't want to comply with history, I want to break it," she added with hopes that her successes pave the way for younger African-American girls to do the same.

She dreams of the day that statistics for African American female directors in charge of big budget films aren’t lower than the number of years she’d be attending college, according to a news release.
